Activity
Overview The
ART of Adherence HIV Counseling Toolkit is a multi-component, CME/CE-certified
activity comprised of educational materials to support counseling efforts with
your HIV patients. The kit includes counseling guides for the health care provider
and informational booklets for your patients on issues that impact their understanding
of antiretroviral therapy (ART), the importance of adherence and issues that may
directly affect ones ability to adhere to therapy. An informative video
is also included providing guidance on how to enhance your patients adherence
through the various stages of therapy: preparing your patient for ART, as well
as initiating, monitoring and maintaining ART. Finally, a resource guide provides
additional educational resources for health care providers and their patients.

Educational Objectives | After
completing this activity, participants should be better able to: | |

how to educate HIV patients about the critical importance of treatment adherence | |

appropriate education materials to assist HIV patients in staying healthy | |

how to effectively utilize resources available to HIV health care providers, including
Web resources, to further their knowledge of long-term care and adherence and
incorporate these learnings into their clinical practice |

Target
Audience This
activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician
assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses involved in the care of patients with
HIV.

activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas
and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
through the joint sponsorship of Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM), and
HealthmattersCME. PIM is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical
education for physicians.
