House AIDS Office Announces Upcoming National HIV/AIDS Community Discussions

| The
White House Office of National AIDS Policy recently announced dates and locations
for a series of National HIV/AIDS Community Discussions. These strategy sessions
are an opportunity for diverse communities impacted by HIV/AIDS in different regions
of the country to give White House officials and other policy-makers their comments
and recommendations regarding the president’s National HIV/AIDS Strategy. |

The National HIV/AIDS
Strategy includes 3 major overarching goals:
 | Reducing
HIV incidence |  | Increasing
access to care and optimizing health outcomes |
 | Reducing
HIV-related health disparities | | |

A White House press release describing the goals of the community meetings is
available at The first community discussion took place in Atlanta on September
25 at the 2009 National HIV Prevention Conference. Locations and dates of upcoming
meeting are as follows: |  |

9: Albuquerque, NM |  | October
10: Houston, TX |  | October
16: San Francisco, CA |  | October
17: Oakland, CA |  | October
18: Los Angeles, CA |  | October
26: Columbia, SC |  | November
6: San Juan, Puerto Rico |  | November
9: U.S. Virgin Islands |  | November
16: Jackson, MS |  | November
20: Fort Lauderdale, FL |  | December
4: New York, NY |
Discussions will be held in the evenings to allow for the widest possible participation.
Because many people are expected to want to speak, individual testimony will be
time-limited. The San Francisco discussion will take place Friday, October
16, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center, 1675 Owens Street.
