Here is a comparison chart showing the differences between
the two groups in terms of various metabolic parameters.1
As you can see, patients in the lipodystrophy group had significant
abnormalities in two-hour glucose levels above 140 mg/dL.
In addition, these patients were more likely than the controls
to have hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia, as well as
reduced levels of HDL-cholesterol.
In conclusion, patients with lipodystrophy have a metabolic
syndrome consisting of profound insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia,
and elevated cardiovascular disease risk factors.
