HPTN 052 lead investigator Myron Cohen talked to Paul Dalton from HIVandHepatitis.com about the study's findings and their significance.
The HPTN 052 study, presented at the 6th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention, offered the first evidence from a randomized clinical trial showing that early antiretroviral therapy can dramatically reduce the risk of HIV transmission to a sexual partner.
